Simon Goldhill Consultancy was started by Simon Goldhill in October 2011 to provide strategic consultancy, advice and project work around the UK legal services market.

The Legal Services Act 2007 has liberalised ownership and management in the legal market in England and Wales. It is no longer restricted to qualified and practicing solicitors. Scotland is about to follow suit. Coupled with other major developments in technology, consumer/client engagement and fee structures, this market will see large-scale and disruptive structural changes to how legal services are marketed, delivered, regulated and paid for in the coming years.

Simon held senior management positions during over 20 years as a practicing solicitor in a number of London and City commericial firms, including successfully establishing a new firm in the teeth of the 1990s recession. He then co-founded the UK’s first scalable volume mediation provider, where, as COO and a main board director, he took this business from concept through to institutional investment

SGC has an unrivalled understanding of the UK liberalised legal market. Our focus is on strategic opportunities for creating and building volume distribution and delivery. Our work is evidence-based, using a mix of high-quality research and  practical experience.

Engagements have included:

  • appointment as Special Advisor to one of the UK’s leading consumer brands on the opportunity to expand their existing legal operations into a full-service volume ABS regulated service
  • working with a business which provides services to financially stressed individuals to expand their offering into legal services
  • various ad-hoc initiatives with existing law firms looking to adapt to the liberalised legal market
